Pigment associated with Photosystem I is a unique form of Chlorophyll a called P 700. This pigment is excited by wavelengths (colors) of light energy in the FAR RED (just longer than the visible red light) portion of the color spectrum. Electrons from P 700 are picked up by another electron acceptor molecule, and ultimately produces NADPH from NADP+. NADPH is an electron (hydrogen) carrier molecule, which is also used in the DARK Rx in the process of producing glucose. NADPH essentially provides the hydrogen which are part of the glucose molecule. The electrons which are "lost" from P 700 are replaced by the electrons flowing from the electron transport chain linking Photosystem II with Photosystem I.
