Ivan Wang-Hei Ho received the BEng and MPhil degrees in information engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the PhD degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Imperial College London, United Kingdom. He was on the Mobile Environmental Sensing System Across a Grid Environment (MESSAGE) project funded by EPSRC and the Department for Transport, UK, and the International Technology Alliance (ITA) project funded by the US Army Research Laboratory and UK Ministry of Defence during his PhD studies. In 2007, Ivan spent a summer with the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, Hawthorne, New York. After his PhD graduation, he was with the System Engineering Initiative at Imperial College London as a postdoctoral research associate. In September 2010, he cofounded P2 Mobile Technologies Limited at Hong Kong Science Park and served as the chief R&D engineer. The MeshRanger series wireless mesh embedded system primarily designed by him won the Silver Award in Best Ubiquitous Networking in Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012. His research interests are in wireless communications and networking, specifically in vehicular ad hoc networks, intelligent transportation systems, and wireless mesh networks.

Lawrence Chi-Chung Cheung received his PhD from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1998. From 1999 to 2003, He was at the City University of Hong Kong. He is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Cheung is a senior member of IEEE. Man-Wai Mak received a BEng(Hons) degree in Electronic Engineering from Newcastle Upon Tyne Polytechnic in 1989 and a PhD degree in Electronic Engineering from University of Northumbria at Newcastle (now Northumbria University) in 1993. He joined the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1993, and presently is an Associate Professor. Dr. Mak has taught courses in speech processing, neural computation, software engineering, objected-oriented design and programming, and distributed systems and cloud computing. He has authored more than 140 technical articles in speaker recognition, machine learning, and bioinformatics, and served as a guest editor of international journals. He is currently an associate editor of IEEE Trans. on Audio, Speech and Language Processing, Journal of Signal Processing Systems, Advances in Artificial Neural Systems, and Conference Papers in Biology. Dr. Mak is also a co-author of the postgraduate textbook “Biometric Authentication: A Machine Learning Approach, Prentice Hall, 2005.” He has received two Faculty of Engineering Research Grant Achievement Awards. He is also experience in software design and implementation, and he has provided consultancy services to companies in Hong Kong. Since 1995, Dr Mak has been an Executive Committee member of the IEEE Hong Kong Section Computer Chapter. He was the Chairman of the IEEE Hong Kong Section Computer Chapter in 2003-2005. He also served as a member of the IEEE Machine Learning for Signal Processing Technical Committee in 2005-2007 and a member of Technical Committee Member, IEEE Computation Intelligence Society, Intelligent Systems Applications in 2008. Dr. Mak has served as a Program Committee member of a number of international conferences, including MLSP'06–2010, BIBE'07, PCM'07 (Track Co-Chair), ICMLC'20007–2011, APSIPA'09–2011, ISCSLP'08-12, etc. Dr Mak's research interests include speaker recognition, machine learning, and bioinformatics.

In particular, he serves as a reviewer, an Area Chair and a Session Chairman for many international journals/conferences. He was the Registration Chair of the 2004 International Symposium on Intelligent Multimedia, Video and Speech Processing (ISIMP’ 2004) held in Hong Kong between October 20 and 22, 2004. Besides, he was the Secretary of the 2010 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP’2010), which is the IEEE sponsored flagship conference in the image processing area. He has published over 80 research papers in various international journals and conferences. Many of which appears in the world’s top-level international journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Image Processing and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. One of his papers “New Adaptive Pixel Decimation for Block Motion Vector Estimation” has been ranked as the most cited paper in IEEE Transactions on Circuits and System for Video Technology since 1990. His research and technical interests include multimedia technologies, signal processing, image and video compression, video streaming, video transcoding, video conferencing, digital TV/HDTV, 3DTV/3DV, multi-view video coding, future video coding standards, error-resilient coding, and digital VCR.
